Woman Killed by Train in Springfield

A woman lost her life in Springfield on Monday following a collision with a train. According to the Springfield Police Department, the incident occurred at the 3rd and Scarritt intersection.


The victim, identified as a 35-year-old woman, was hit by the train, prompting an immediate response from emergency personnel. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said that she was pronounced deceased at the scene at 10:23 p.m.


The woman's identity is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine further details about the incident and the cause of death.


Both the Sangamon County Coroner's Office and the Springfield Police Department are actively investigating the incident.


UPDATE


The Sangamon County Coroner has confirmed the identity of the woman who was hit and killed by a train in Springfield Monday evening.

Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the deceased woman as Cherry Sheppard, 35 of Springfield.


Sheppard was pronounced dead at the scene. Allmon says the autopsy indicates Sheppard died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the incident.


The death remains under investigation by the Coroner and the Springfield Police Department.
