A 16-year-old girl from Springfield has died after being struck by a train Wednesday night, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed.
According to the Coroner’s Office, emergency responders were called to the railway near the 3100 block of Carman Street, where the incident occurred. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:45 p.m.
An autopsy conducted Thursday determined that she died from multiple blunt force injuries. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office.
