Springfield Police Arrest Man After ShotSpotter Alerts

A Springfield man was arrested after police responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts on the city’s east side.
On April 24, 2025, at approximately 6:32 p.m., Springfield Police officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Bluebird Court and the 2900 block of Taylor Avenue following alerts from the gunshot detection system. Although no victims or witnesses were located at the scene, officers found and collected multiple shell casings as evidence.
The Springfield Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit and detectives launched a follow-up investigation, leading to two search warrants being served on April 25. During the searches, officers recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and a Ruger Security 9mm pistol.

Lavaughn T. Williams, 24, of Springfield, was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card. He was transported to the Sangamon County Jail.
