Springfield Man Charged in Killing of 19-Year-Old

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in connection with the April 7, 2025, homicide of 19-year-old Camren White of Stonington, Illinois.
White was shot in the early morning hours in the 800 block of West Lenox in Springfield. Emergency responders transported him to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 1:46 a.m. An autopsy later confirmed that White died from multiple gunshot wounds. The case has remained under active investigation by the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office.
As the investigation progressed, the Sangamon County State’s Attorney issued an arrest warrant for Justin L. Pickrell, 23, of Springfield. The charges include First Degree Murder and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

On April 14, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Pickrell was taken into custody by members of the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The arrest followed a traffic crash near 7th Street and South Grand Avenue in Springfield. Pickrell was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office expressed its appreciation to the Springfield Police Department, Leland Grove Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office, and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office for their collaboration and support in the investigation.
