Redpath Named Springfield City Clerk

In a 5-3 vote by the Springfield City Council, Ward 1 Alderman Chuck Redpath was confirmed as the new Springfield City Clerk. Redpath will serve the remainder of the term left vacant by Frank Lesko, who recently won the election for Sangamon County Recorder, defeating Josh Langfelder.

The confirmation vote took place during a contentious council meeting, where Ward 6 Alderwoman Jennifer Notariano led the opposition to Redpath’s nomination. Notariano, along with Ward 3 Alderman Roy Williams, initially sought to delay the vote, a motion that ultimately failed. They later attempted to nominate Josh Langfelder for the Clerk’s position, but this motion also failed with a 3-5 vote. Redpath begins his service as City Clerk immediately, with the term running until May 2027.

Redpath has served on the Springfield City Council for over 30 years, representing Ward 4, and then Ward 1. His extensive experience in local governance has been characterized by a strong commitment to addressing community needs, including infrastructure improvements, public safety, and economic development initiatives. In addition to his civic service, Redpath served in the military for 25 years.
