On April 20th the Sangamon County Tactical Response Unit carried out a narcotics search warrant at a home in Springfield's 2200 block of Montgomery Lane. The search was the result of a narcotics investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office DIRT Team.
Upon searching the residence, detectives uncovered over 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine, around 19 grams of suspected cocaine, a stolen Ruger .44 Magnum handgun, scales, and a small amount of United States currency. The handgun was loaded and found next to where the suspect, Douglas A. Malone, was sleeping. Another male occupant at the scene was released without charges.
Douglas A. Malone, a 38-year-old resident of the Montgomery Lane address, was arrested and charged with four counts of Manufacture/Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He had a previous felony conviction for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, which resulted in an 8-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He is currently in custody at the Sangamon County Jail, with a bond set at $50,000 (10%).
