Sangamon County has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to the public, calling for qualified professional artists who may be interested in contributing a large-scale artwork to be displayed in the soon-to-be-constructed Sangamon County atrium space.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Sangamon County Board, involves the establishment of an advisory committee comprising community members tasked with providing final recommendations for the art installation to the Sangamon County Board. The committee boasts a diverse representation, including members from the local art community, elected officials, county employees, and community leaders.
"The advisory committee is open to reviewing applications from qualified artists that have experience in art that can be installed on the floor or art that might hang from the ceiling," noted Chairman Andy VanMeter. "We are hoping that many talented artists reply to this RFQ to give our advisory committee many options to consider for this very important location in the county’s new atrium space."
The call for public art commissions extends to all professional artists, artisans, artist-led teams, and firms. Detailed criteria and additional information regarding the artwork size and timeline can be found in the RFQ document on the Sangamon County website.
Following the receipt of responses to the RFQ, the advisory committee will conduct a thorough evaluation and select a subset of applicants to develop concepts that will be considered in the final selection process.
Artists interested in participating in this opportunity must ensure their responses to the RFQ are submitted by noon on October 31, 2023.
