Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy Van Meter named Jennifer Ghesquiere Deaner to fill the vacant District 25 County Board position. Deaner's appointment was approved unanimously at the February 13th County Board meeting.
Deaner is a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience as a preschool teacher and childcare center director. She currently serves as a preschool teacher at Springfield's Christ the King. Deaner graduated from Illinois Wesleyan with a degree in elementary education.
"As a lifelong Springfield resident, community involvement has always been my passion, Deaner said; from serving in the Junior League to expanding and leading preschool programs as a teacher, I've seen the impact of dedicated service firsthand. Now, I'm excited to bring my experience to the County Board. I believe in fiscal responsibility and positive engagement with constituents. Every interaction is a chance to learn. Thank you to Chairman Van Meter and the County Board for your confidence and the opportunity to further serve our community."
County Board District 25 includes portions of the west side of Springfield. Deaner will serve the remainder of the term left vacant by the retirement of George Preckwinkle; the term expires in December 2024.
Deaner resides in the Cobblestone subdivision with her husband and two sons.
