Mayor Misty Buscher is launching a new initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between Springfield residents and city government through a series of departmental open houses scheduled to begin this spring.
The events are designed to provide residents with opportunities to meet City staff, learn more about day-to-day operations, ask questions, and share feedback in a public, in-person setting.
"There is no substitute for listening to the people we serve,” said Mayor Misty Buscher. "These open houses are an invitation to learn, connect, and build a stronger Springfield together. I want our residents to know that their voices matter, and this is one way we’re making sure they are heard.”
According to the mayor’s office, the open houses are part of a broader effort to increase transparency, improve access to city resources, and collect input to help guide future policies and services. City departments will offer materials and resources during the events, with the goal of keeping attendees informed and engaged beyond the sessions.
The schedule for the upcoming departmental open houses is as follows:
Saturday, May 3 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Springfield Fire Department Open House Station One – 825 E. Capitol Ave.
Thursday, May 22 | 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.Public Works Open House 222 N. 17th St.
Wednesday, June 18 | 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.Springfield Police Department Open House 3501 Color Plant Rd.
The Buscher administration indicated that additional efforts to expand engagement opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks.
